Bates Creative
Showing a brand's creative streak
About this project
Upon moving into a gorgeous new studio, Bates was deep in decor projects to spruce up the place. I was asked to provide insight into the lobby's decor. I pitched a mural, and asked the Creative Director, Jen Fose, to collaborate with me. Working with leadership and the copywriting team, we formed a visual concept under the idea 'Creativity Moves.' Jen customized the mural's central typeface, while I crafted a visual strategy for the environment and composition by matching relevant objects to the agency's brand. We divided the illustration by object, designing in a two-color, graphic style. The use of black and white was to provide a high contrast, bold look that set apart from the furniture as a full-wall artwork. After design, we projected the composition on the wall, sketched it out, and began painting. Directing a team of six, we painted over a month to finish the entire wall and double coat it. The result was a multi-wall decoration that was eyecatching from outside, easily marketable, compelling as interior design, and representative of a creative studio that wants to be bold and inspire through their work.
