Stop Police Terror Project
Grassroots activism in the District
About this project
During the Ferguson protests against police brutality, SPTP was formed in DC to continue this activism from the DMV. Having already undergone a name change with very few consistent visuals, SPTP is representative of the number of grassroots organizations with little funds or time to craft an organized, cohesive brand. Working closely with the Executive Board, I created a mark that represented the raised fist of black protest breaking their modern-day shackles—a handcuff. The logo emphasized the word ‘stop’ to show the organization’s goal to eradicate police brutality. Overall, the identity had simple structure—all black or brown, able to be clearly visible and recognizable on protest banners and signs, and contextually clear to the public. The business card was created with a UV Gloss to have a purposeful black-on-black effect, cohesively showing the organization’s black-led priorities. The organization continues to thrive, and I have been thankful to work alongside them, learning and helping to hone the brand as further needs arise.
